About the 2010 Gala

The Gala of Hope is a major fundraising initiative of the Canadian Cancer Society. The Gala of Hope is an elegant dinner and dance event hosting 300 guests including numerous Kelowna business and community leaders.

The Gala of Hope is organized and administered by a dedicated and professional committee of volunteers and staff.

Why does the Canadian Cancer Society put on this event? Beacuse every three seconds, cancer picks a fight with another Canadian. Two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime.  Each of us has had cancer touch our life. Whether it affects you personally, a family member, a loved one or a friend, it is a devastating disease that we must eradicate.

The 2010 event was another great success. Olympic champion Jon Montgomery entertained attendees with his fast-talking auctioneering skills, helping raise money during our Live Auction. EMI recording artist Shawn Hlookoff gave a spectacular performance on the piano and guitar. The Gala of Hope was honoured to have Gail Given as the honourary chair for this year's event.

The 6th annual Gala of Hope paid special tribute to Camp Goodtimes, as 2010 marks the 25th Anniversary of Camp Goodtimes, and 25 years of bringing life-enhancing support to children and families who bravely fight cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society is committed to eradicating cancer and enhancing the quality of life for people living with cancer.  We thank those who joined us in the fight against cancer as a sponsor, guest, donor or volunteer of the Gala of Hope.

Funds raised through this Gala help the Canadian Cancer Society fund the best cancer research across Canada and in BC, reduce the incidence of cancer through action-oriented prevention strategies, and support cancer patients and their families as they cope with the unexpected emotional, practical and financial stress of cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society is a trusted source of information and works on behalf of Canadians to try to influence decision-makers at all levels of government to create healthier environments where people work, live, and play.

The generosity of donors helps the Society to achieve its vision of creating a world where no one fears cancer.  Thank you for joining us in the fight against cancer.
